The difference between Horror and Thriller films

Horror films and thriller films both are similar in certain ways however have many different qualities. Horror films are used to make people scared and fill fear, also to make the audience think that there is no hope for the character as you feel emotionally and physically connected. Many horror films also focus on the people who have currently died and the killer that did it, or supernatural causes. The use of blood and hidden frames gives the audience an sense of hopelessness and that there is no escape from the reality of what is about to happen. Isolated settings are used to intensify the emptiness that character feels and how trapped they are within the film. Many horror films have "Don't do it" moments which the audience predicts coming as they are screaming at the screen .

However thriller films have mystery and suspense which causes the audience to think of what will happen and how it will affect the characters within the film. Dark settings and low key lighting is used to create an sense of fear for the audience however not actually making them scared or feel like that there is no hope for the characters. Enigma is used for the audience to want answers to the questions that they are thinking even though they will not be exposed until the end of the film.
